Mods add new blocks, mobs, items and systems to Minecraft. Your server needs a mod loader (Forge, NeoForge or Fabric) before it can run them.
¶ Before you start
- A Minecraft Java server with Gravel Host. No server yet? Get one here
- The mods you want, from CurseForge or Modrinth, built for the same loader and Minecraft version.
- The same mods installed on your own Minecraft client.
Changing the server software can break an existing world. Download a backup first, or start on a fresh server.
¶ Steps
¶ Install a mod loader
- In the panel, open Version Changer from the left sidebar.
- Choose Forge, NeoForge or Fabric.
- Pick the Minecraft version and build you want and install it.
- Start the server once so it creates the
modsfolder, then stop it.
¶ Add your mods
- Open Mods from the left sidebar to search for and install mods from the panel.
- To upload your own instead, open Files, go into the
modsfolder and upload the mod.jarfiles. Create the folder if it is not there. - Start the server.
¶ Check it worked
The server starts with no errors in the Console, and you can join from a client that has the same mods.
¶ Troubleshooting
¶ The server crashes on start after adding a mod
A mod does not match your loader or Minecraft version, or needs another mod as a dependency. Remove the last mod you added and check its requirements.
